Water raging in the James river

I just had to see for myself the power of 12+ feet of water in the James river as it passes through Richmond. I’m accustomed to seeing high water downtown at Pipeline and Belle Isle, but I took in the view that Richmond marathon participants might see, as the water is supposed to crest at 14.5 feet Saturday morning.

The sound of the raging waters of the James is much more shocking than the sight. Seeing the disappearance of the normal channels a paddler would take in these areas is a bit too much for me to take, but I did see several people with white water kayaks getting ready for a wild ride….

Z-Dam along Riverside Drive -- normally, you can see a dam with a drop down here.

Pony Pasture....where are the rocks?

Riverside Drive above "Cooper's Rifle" -- "Choo Choo" should be there, but high water seems to blow right over it.

View from Nickel Bridge looking west -- contrast that with the header image for this blog.
