WHAT: Howitzers monument in Richmond, Virginia.
LOCATION: Harrison Street, Park & Grove avenues in the triangle park at the western edge of the VCU Monroe Park campus.
ARTIST: William Ludwell Sheppard.
DEDICATION: December 13, 1892.
DESCRIPTION: An 8 foot high bronze standing figure of a young artilleryman “No. 1” at the piece. The figure rests on a 9 1/2 foot high classical style pedestal also designed by Mr. Sheppard, a former officer in the Howitzers. The memorial to the cannoneers was sponsored by the Howitzer Association.
